As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library had to close temporarily for the safety of staff and patrons. To still maintain a connection with the community and serve our patrons, we’ve created this blog to host online programming. You can find out full event calendar here.

Winter is the perfect time to sow native seeds! Many natives require cold stratification for germination.🌱 📚 Stop by our seed library at the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library to check out seeds! You can also place seeds on hold at the link in our bio.

This Fall semester, KU TRIO Talent Search taught 40 middle school students different STEM topics in the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library downstairs classroom. It was fun to see how busy our library can get! Thank you to KU TRIO Talent Search and all the students who participated.

Main Library is starting to look very festive as we get ready for the Snowflake Swing tomorrow! Join us at 7:00 pm to kick off the holiday season with a concert by the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra.

The wintertime when it snows, is the best time for finding animal tracks! Join Education Specialist LuAnn in this video as she takes you around the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library to find and identify the signs animals leave behind. The link to the video is in our bio!

Although birdwatching is popular year-round at the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library, the wintertime is Extra special! Each year, we contribute to a Cornell Lab of Ornithology study called Project FeederWatch, which runs from November through April. We would love to have your help on our count days! Come out any Thursday or Friday, borrow some library binoculars, and help us count and record the variety of beautiful songbirds and raptors we see from our library windows and outside deck. We can help you identify the birds and tell you more about other projects where YOU can contribute to scientific research! Link in bio for feeder watch.
