About Online Programs @ KCKPL

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library had to close temporarily for the safety of staff and patrons. To still maintain a connection with the community and serve our patrons, we’ve created this blog to host online programming.  You can find out full event calendar here.

Have you ever been inside our Mobile Library? You'll have a chance at Library in the Park on September 30! One of our libraries on wheels will be parked outside Main Library. Stop by to say hi to our librarians and check out a book! Learn more about Library in the Park at the link in our bio.
We have so many fun activities planned for this year's Library in the Park on September 30! We'll have facepainting, a selfie booth, lawn games, giant bubbles, library activity tents, and more! Join us from 11am-3pm in Huron Park. Learn more at the link in our bio.
We had a very successful Butterfly Festival on Saturday, where over 600 people attended to enjoy all things insects. One cool station we had was "Entomophagy," which is the act of eating insects by humans. Entomophagy was a hit, as we had roasted crickets and meal worms for people to snack on. A few kiddos enjoyed it! Entomophagy is a sustainable protein if you want to help the planet. Insects grow fast, reproduce quickly, and live with very little water.
Each year, the Mr. & Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library has a week-long Butterfly School Days event where 4th and 5th grade students from KCKPS come and learn all about the monarch butterfly. We serve about 80-plus students a day. Here, you see some students from Lowell Brune watching a monarch emerge from their chrysalis!
