About Online Programs @ KCKPL

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kansas City, Kansas Public Library had to close temporarily for the safety of staff and patrons. To still maintain a connection with the community and serve our patrons, we’ve created this blog to host online programming.  You can find out full event calendar here.

One of the most recognizable historic homes in Kansas City is the Anton Sauer residence, also known as Sauer Castle. Located on Shawnee Avenue, this stately home was built around 1871 by Anton Sauer, a German immigrant, and wealthy Kansas City merchant. The design is attributed to architect Asa Beebe Cross. Sauer purchased the land from the Shawnee, and the grand estate originally featured a greenhouse and outbuildings, including a bakery, laundry, and smokehouse. It is one of Kansas's best-surviving examples of the Italianate style. To learn more about Sauer Castle, visit the Kansas Room at the Main Library.
It's summer time, which means time for Summer Reading. Kids have many choices available for summer reading with Hoopla. Visit the link in our bio for the full collection.
