Calling all teens looking for a volunteer opportunity! The Kansas City, Kansas Public Library is launching the Craft for a Cause program! This program includes a pre-packaged activity that can be assembled at home and returned to the library in exchange for volunteer hours!

For October and November, we are kicking off this program by offering kits with supplies to make a 7 by 9 knitted square that will be donated to Warm Up America. This organization takes donated squares to assemble knitted blankets to donate to those in need. Learn more about this organization here: https://warmupamerica.org/

Here is how it works:

  • Teens interested in participating will visit the Main, West, or South Libraries to pick up a Craft for a Cause kit to take home to assemble. All supplies and instructions are included.
  • Once the craft is completed, they can turn it in at their nearest Kansas City, Kansas Public Library Branch.
  • One completed craft will count as one hour of library volunteer time. Teens can do more than one kit while supplies last.
  • Every two months, the library will release a new craft (with breaks in December 2021 and May 2022).

Watch the video below for detailed walk through of making the knitted square at home!

Follow along with us all year long as we continue developing this program and growing our teen volunteer program!
