Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to recycle more in 2021? United Government of Wyandotte County makes it super easy!
According to the Wyandotte County website, “All residents in Wyandotte County, up to a four-plex, who receive residential trash service by Deffenbaugh, who reside in Kansas City, Kansas shall have curbside recycling services available to them.” However, they do note that “this residential recycling program does not include businesses, apartments, trailer courts or home associations that privately contract for trash services.”
Where can you get a recycling bin?
Due to Covid-19, the United Government’s Recycling & Yard Waste Center is currently operating with limited hours (more info on this at the bottom of this article). However, you can also use your own container! Just clearly label it “recycling” and place it at your curb, away from your trash can. Super easy!
When will your recycling be picked up?
Your recycling bin will be picked up on the same day as your trash. Deffenbaugh may pick up at any time of the day, so it’s advisable to have your recycling put out by 7 am. However, it is considered “unlawful for a person, owner, owner’s agent or occupant to set out or allow to be set out any garbage, trash, or recyclables for collection before 4 p.m. of the day prior to the day of collection.”
On holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day), trash and recycling are picked up one day later.
What can you recycle through the Curbside Recycling Program?
Paper, paperboard, aluminum and steel cans, corrugated cardboard, cartons, and assorted plastic containers labeled #1 thru #7 are acceptable for pick-up.
Plastic recycling numbers are located on the bottom of plastic containers (look for the “chasing arrows” recycling symbol.) Please rinse out your plastics.
Please note that the following are not available to recycle through the Curbside Recycling Program: glass, shredded paper, books, take-home pizza delivery boxes, tissue, paper plates, paper towels, Styrofoam, disposable diapers, plastic bags, egg cartons, pipe and tubing, and anything contaminated with food or liquid.
