In 2010, Pernille Ripp founded The Global Read Aloud, a global literacy initiative that began with a simple goal in mind: one book to connect the world. From its humble beginnings, the GRA has grown to connect millions of students around the world.
The Young Adult book selected for 2020 is Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You by Jason Reynolds.
The Kansas City Kansas Public Library is joining this worldwide initiative and connecting with our patrons virtually as library staff read a section of the book each week and engage in meaningful discussion about the topics presented in each chapter.
This program is recommended for ages 12 and up.
Please join us Mondays at 4:00 pm on the following dates on Zoom where KCKPL library staff will read the following sections of the book:
October 5 Intro – Chapter 3
October 12 Chapter 4 – 10
October 19 Chapter 11 – 14
October 26 Chapter 15 – 19
November 2 Chapter 20 – 22
November 9 Chapter 23 – 26
November 16 Chapter 27 – Afterword
Click here to register for this event. The Zoom link will be emailed to each registered participant and posted online 24 hours prior to each event.
Click here to reserve a copy of the book if you choose. It is available in print and electronically on AXIS 360. You will not need to have a copy to participate, but you are welcome to check one out to follow along each week. Each week we will be reading a section of the book aloud in our Zoom meeting with permission from the publisher, Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
I really look forward to connecting with you on Zoom where we can learn from each other as we discuss this thought-provoking book.
