Juneteenth is an American holiday celebrated annually on the 19th of June in the United States to commemorate the reading of federal orders in the city of Galveston, Texas, on 19 June 1865, proclaiming that all enslaved persons in the U.S. state of Texas were now free. This was years after the Emancipation Proclamation but is the day that all slaves in America were officially emancipated, which is why it is also known as Emancipation Day or Freedom Day. This is a day to truly celebrate!
“Juneteenth is a day of reflection, a day of renewal, a pride-filled day. It is a moment in time taken to appreciate the African American experience. It is inclusive of all races, ethnicities, and nationalities as nothing is more comforting than the hand of a friend.”
