Welcome to the STEAM Lab at the West Branch, where we explore science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics together. Today, join Ms. Jacqueline to make a homemade lava lamp! All you will need for this science experiment is:
- Clear container
- 3/4 cup of water
- Vegetable oil
- Food coloring
- Cold relief tablets (like Alka Seltzer)
Watch the video below to get started!
Try this: what happens if your water is warmer or colder? Before putting in your food coloring, shake your water and oil with the lid on tight, and observe what happens! When your lava lamp is finished bubbling, put a lid on it to store it and use it again when you want to see this cool chemical reaction take place.
